Seniors – Loneliness

Nick Vujicic clarifies how lonely people are at any age. When you are alone, what comforting words bring you hope?

God runs to us in times of loneliness. He wraps us in his arms and promises. I will never leave you alone. I am always with you. Don’t be scared in those moments when the loneliness seems overwhelming. God is not far away. Talk to him through prayer. Hear His voice through the Bible. Take moments to be in His presence every day, and be strengthened in the promise that our God is with us!

We do not have to live in loneliness any longer because God is by our side. The creator who created you also knows you and loves you and walks with you, so when the loneliness shows up, remember the God who is always there.

Seniors – How to Hear God’s Voice

God speaks to us through the very thing that He has been using to talk with His people for centuries: Scripture. In the Bible we can hear for ourselves the still, strong voice of God today, but that may require turning down the volume on the other noises so that we can hear clearly. So spend some time this week turning off the noises around you and focusing on the Bible and hearing what the Lord wants to say to you. In those quiet moments speak back to God through prayer. Have a conversation away from the hustle and bustle of our noisy lives and have a conversation with the Creator. Turn down the noise and turn up the volume on God’s Word. He’s ready to speak to you today you.

Seniors – God’s Purpose for Your Life

Nick Vujicic encourages seasoned seniors. What is a good metaphor that describes your life? Maybe a journey? Perhaps a book with many chapters?

Have you ever considered that your life is like a tree? Stay with me for a second. It might seem strange to think of your life as a tree, but that is exactly how the Bible describes it. “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,” says Psalm 92. “He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”

I don’t know if you know much about trees in the Middle East but palm trees grow exceptionally well in that part of the world. Given the right conditions, a palm tree can grow six feet per year, but even with that type of progress, it takes many years for a palm tree to reach its full maturity, and the cedars of Lebanon, well, they grow as tall as 130 feet, and these Middle-Eastern cedars are known to be aromatic, durable, and useful for any type of construction.

Isn’t it interesting that when the writer of Psalms was thinking about the lives God’s people led, He compared them to palm and cedar trees. Psalm 92 makes me think that God values and prizes growth over a long span of years. Those people and strong trees illustrate how God’s plan and purpose are to take a small seed, and over time, to develop it into a majestic tree full of life and blessing, but the verse goes on. “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age. They shall be fresh and flourishing.”
